Othala is the twenty-fourth and final rune of the Elder Futhark. It is also the eighth and final rune of Tyr's Ætt (although, it is sometimes placed as the second-to-last rune before Dagaz. Check out our article on Dagaz if you're interested in learning more about this).

Othala Upright Meaning
Othala upright denotes the home, health, tradition, ancestors, and inheritance. It relates to prosperity and abundance, so it is likewise worth comparing to Fehu.
Othala points to freedom of the individual through balancing self-service and service to the collective.
The Kylver Stone (dating back to about 400 AD) places Othala last in the Elder Futhark alphabetical sequence. This placement is significant because later sources place Dagaz last, but Othala being last indicates the final destination of home. In Ancient Scandinavia, familial land was generationally passed down (because it could not be sold), and this is like a corporeal representation of the generational aspects passed down through blood and psychology.
Be it the physical home space, family, ancestors, or feelings of home within yourself, Othala is concerned with feelings of homecoming and nurturing. Othala may indicate that now is the time to work on healing generational trauma and breaking cycles that don't serve to replace them with new systems. The energy put into long-term goals will flourish.
Othala Reversed Meaning
Othala reversed can mean that there is disharmony in the family or an argument about inheritance. It could be that someone is acting immature and rashly or that they feel like a bad person. It is not wise to aggravate the situation during this time. It will not lead to a good outcome.

Othala is useful for communicating with ancestors, healing generational trauma, and generating long-term wealth. It grants the power of ancestral knowledge.
Othala assists in maintaining order and pursuing common interests with others. And is notably useful for pursuing prosperity.
